We are delighted to welcome Olivia Brooksbank-Laing to our chambers as a first-six pupil, under the supervision of Benjamin Knight. Olivia’s passion for criminal law and her dedication to making a positive impact on individuals through legal intervention make her a valuable addition to our team.
Olivia’s experience and training demonstrate her commitment to honing the competencies required to succeed as a barrister. As a gateway assessor at Citizens Advice, she honed her analytical skills, assessing large amounts of information and summarising it into a case study, then researching and relaying the relevant advice. She also developed sound judgement, critical for determining whether the circumstances warranted further specialist support. Olivia’s work with BPP Streetlaw allowed her to be adaptive in her method of communication when working with a range of individuals, delivering information in an appropriate manner with common kindness.
Olivia achieved Distinction in all of her oral advocacy examinations at BPP, and will continue to develop these skills on a daily basis through her role of County Court Advocate. Her passion for the field is evident in her desire to utilise her enjoyment of oral advocacy, coupled with solving daily complex legal disputes. Olivia’s training for the self-employed role of County Advocate Court with LPC Law, attending county courts on the Northern Circuit, demonstrates her commitment to developing her skills and knowledge in advocacy. Her interest in the law around sexual offences and violent crime demonstrates her dedication to criminal law and her desire to make a positive impact on individuals’ lives.
Olivia’s commitment to pro bono work and her interest in joining a chambers actively supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community reflect her values and dedication to making a positive impact on society. We are confident that Olivia’s passion, dedication, and skills will make her a valuable member of our team, and we look forward to seeing her grow and develop as a barrister.
