Keith Hartley-Jones secures only acquittal in multi-million pound Marrache and Turnbull fraud trial in Gibraltar.

Keith was instructed as Junior Counsel to represent Leanne Turnbull, a former employee of the collapsed law firm Marrache & Co. Mrs Turnbull was charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to defraud which ran to approximately £40 million over a period of 6 years.Keith, being led by Ann Cotcher QC of Farringdon Chambers, secured the only acquittal in a case which has made legal history in Gibraltar and the UK.

The verdict was delivered by trial judge, Mr Justice Grigson in the Supreme Court of Gibraltar, after nearly nine months of evidence bringing to a close not only the longest criminal trial in Gibraltar’s history but, controversially, the first in which a judge had sat alone having discharged a jury as a result of jury tampering. Three members of Gibraltar’s well-known Marrache family – brothers Benjamin, Isaac and Solomon – were convicted and now face lengthy jail terms. Benjamin was sentenced to 11 years while his 2 brothers received 7 years each.
