Central Chambers raises over £1,200 for the Terrence Higgins Trust

On Saturday 12 October members of chambers completed a 10km walk in aid of the Terrance Higgins Trust Home | Terrence Higgins Trust.

We are very thankful to all those that supported us and raised £1,240 for the Trust.

Terrence Higgins Trust is the UK’s leading HIV charity. They support people living with HIV and amplify their voices, and help the people using their services to achieve good sexual health.

Support of the Trust helps work towards a world where:

  • There are no new HIV cases in the UK by 2030.
  • People living with HIV get the support they need.
  • Everyone can access good quality sexual and reproductive health services and information tailored to their individual needs.
  • HIV and sexual and reproductive health free from shame and stigma.

Our route took us via some of Manchester’s historical and cultural spots. We met at chambers and after a slight delay set off around 12.15.

Our first marker was the site of the Peterloo Massacre Peterloo Massacre – Wikipedia.

We then went by The People’s History Museum People’s History Museum: The national museum of democracy.

Followed by a quick stop at what remains of the old Assize courts in Strangeways Manchester Assize Courts – Wikipedia.

After a short pause there we moved on to Angel Meadow St Michael’s Flags and Angel Meadow Park – Wikipedia

To offer a bit of encouragement to the CPS minded people on the walk we passed by the Police Museum Greater Manchester Police | Museum & Archives

After that we went through Piccadilly to the Apollo Theatre. We cut through Manchester University and back down Oxford Road to St Peter’s square and the Central Library Central Library | Manchester City Council.

Our final stop for food and a few drinks was in the village History of the Gay Village and LGBTQ+ nightlife in Manchester | Science and Industry Museum.

We were lucky that the weather was good, and the company was even better. It was a great opportunity for members of chambers from the crime and family teams to meet up outside of court and simply have a catch up. We are likely to complete a walk again in 2025 and we would be delighted if others want to come along, enjoy the exercise, the company and most importantly support a truly worthy cause.
