Gabi Ashby Becomes Our Newest Tenant

Central Chambers Celebrates Gabi Ashby’s Tenancy

Central Chambers is delighted to announce that Gabi Ashby, having successfully completed her pupillage under the supervision of Joseph Lynch, has been offered and accepted her tenancy at Central Chambers. This marks the beginning of an exciting chapter as she becomes an integral part of our esteemed family team.

During a period marked by challenges in the family justice system, Gabi demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability, completing a diverse and comprehensive pupillage with us. She has proven herself to be a valuable asset in both public and private family law sectors, and is also adept at handling injunctive family matters.

Joseph Lynch, her supervisor, shares his experience working with Gabi:

“Gabi has been a delightful pupil to mentor; her conscientious approach and diligence set her apart. She has a vibrant personality and a good sense of humour, which makes her a pleasure to work with. Gabi has a commendable attitude towards learning, always open to advice and keen to implement the guidance received in her case preparations and approaches. Her proactive nature in seeking advice not only from me but also from other members of Chambers and the Bar is truly admirable. I am confident that Gabi will continue to be a great asset to our chambers, showcasing the potential we saw in her during her pupillage.

I have no doubt that Gabi is already an asset to Chambers. The feedback I have had from a variety of sources confirm as much. Potential is what we look for in our pupils and Gabi is already starting to fulfil hers. By accepting tenancy with Central, Gabi is joining the very talented group of junior tenants we already have in Chambers. She is another example of the fact that we are getting our pupil selections right and we can take pride in the work we have put in to allow us the success rate we are enjoying.”

Central Chambers maintains a rigorous selection process for its pupils, aiming to nurture individuals who exhibit great potential. Gabi has not only met but exceeded our expectations, joining our talented group of junior tenants and embodying the success of our pupil selection process.

Gabi has also earned the trust and respect of our clerks, Jade and Kate, who note:

“Gabi has laid a solid foundation for a successful career at the bar. She has established a good rapport with clients, who often request her representation in future hearings, a testament to her professionalism and approachable nature.”

As we reflect on the growth of our pupillage programme, which aligns with the reforms initiated by the Bar Standards Board, we take pride in its flexibility and common-sense approach, which has proven beneficial to our pupils.

Central Chambers recommenced its pupillage programme seven years ago, a decision that has fostered a pool of specialists in family and criminal law. This strategic move has not only facilitated our growth but also expanded the range of talents available to our instructing solicitors, enhancing the services we offer.

Whilst Central Chambers takes pupils with a view to tenancy, all pupils must pass a vote of existing tenants in order to be offered tenancy. This process involves detailed consideration of the applicant’s previous 12 months’ work.

A vote to offer tenancy at Central Chambers must be taken as a strong endorsement of the applicant and it shows that the tenants consider that the applicant has grown into their space in Chambers.

As Gabi prepares to embark on this new journey, her supervisor adds a personal note:

“Gabi has truly found her place in our chambers, showcasing a growth that we are all proud of, it is her spirit and determination that make her a valuable member of our team. Whilst we may have  disagreements on the merits of the England Rugby team, she is persistent in her claim they are not overrated, but she is finally starting to see that they may be fallible although it’s a discussion I expect to go on for a long time.’

Gabi’s tenancy commences on 26th September 2023, and she is available for instruction immediately. To instruct Gabi or any member of our family team, please contact our clerks by email or at 0161 236 1133.
